Burt's Bees started out in 1984 as a company of very humble beginnings. Run only by two people, Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby, Burt's Bees began as a business venture that included selling beeswax candles at local crafts fairs as a by-product of Shavitz's honey business. Despite the fact that the business started out in Maine, word about their candles soon reached New York and they decided to expand the company by employing more people.
By the time 1991 rolled around, they were already manufacturing natural soaps and perfumes. It was also then that they decided to start making lip balm, which is actually their best-selling product to date. After that, they expanded their company, added new products such as facial products and skincare products, which are all of the highest quality.
As evidenced by the brand name, Burt's Bees products are mostly made out of beeswax. Beeswax is often misunderstood and thought about as a heavy and very solid kind of wax, something it is not. Beeswax is wax produced by worker bees in order to create the cell walls of their honeycomb. Beeswax has softening, smoothing and emollient properties and helps the skin in maintaining its moisture. Aside from that, it also has anti-bacterial properties as well as vitamin A, which is known to be a vitamin that aids the development of human cells. Although beeswax is an ingredient in most of their products, they have some based from honey as well.
Burt's Bees' facial products include cleansers, exfoliants, toners, complexion mists, moisturizers, treatment and eye cremes. Cleansers will rid the face of dirt and other impurities, exfoliants will gently slough off dead skin cells, and toners will aid in the tightening and toning of the user's pores. The complexion mists invigorate the skin while the moisturizers will make sure the user's face is moisturized without leaving a greasy feel. The facial treatments include blemish sticks, repair serum and a refining mask to make sure the face is healthy. Eye creams do their job of eliminating fine lines and taking care of areas around the eyes. In addition, they also offer lip-care products such as lip balm and lip gloss.
Burt's Bees skincare products include washes and soaps, moisturizers and bath products. With Burt's Bees, bathing is considered a luxurious experience. There is a wide array of washes and soaps from which to choose; there is even a travel shower kit for the ultimate convenience on trips. Using bath oils and bath crystals make bathing not just a practice concerning hygiene, but also of pampering the self. After bathing, soothe and protect skin by using lotions, creams or oils.
Committed to producing high-quality products, Burt's Bees not only provides people with excellent personal care products but also tries to do what is best for the environment. Burt's Bees uses only natural ingredients and recycled packaging. Their attention to detail and commitment to the greater good were painstaking efforts that led their products to be patronized and loved by people all over the world.
